Two air chambers? Getting to know the double chamber

Two pictures showing how the Deluxe double chamber is built and the backup buoyancy it gives.

The extra chamber is a structure that provides backup buoyancy. It doesn't replace a buoyancy aid or safety preparation suited to the water.

Came across the term double chamber while reading about inflatable boards? A chamber is a space that holds air. Let's follow the pictures and see what the second space does.

01. Extra structure built inside the board

The first picture introduces the Deluxe Double Chamber and the double I-beam stringer. The original describes it as a structure that makes the board stiffer, for a feel like a hard board.

The acceleration, surfing and stability shown under the picture are features Starboard HQ highlighted when introducing this structure. They aren't guaranteed figures saying every board shows the same difference or is faster in any condition.

02. Backup buoyancy is not the same as safety preparation

The second picture explains that the extra air chamber provides backup buoyancy. Read it as material for understanding that there's one more air chamber.

That doesn't mean it replaces a life jacket or that you can head out on any water. Your leash, buoyancy aid, weather check and plan for getting back need to be prepared separately from the board's construction.

03. Check the inflation order for your model

Before you inflate, first check your board's model and the markings for each chamber. Don't decide from this introductory picture alone whether both chambers take the same pressure or what order to fill them in.

The wording about carrying more gear should also be read within your actual board's load limit. If you're thinking of buying, compare where you'll mostly ride and how you'll transport the board as well.
