Paddle blades: what changes when the shape changes?

Use the original Enduro and Lima comparison to see how the catch feels and what each is for.

Once you've set your paddle length, the shape of the end starts to catch your eye. Some spread out wide, while others run long and smooth. When choosing a blade, start by picturing what water you'll paddle in and how you want to paddle.

01. The blade is the part that meets the water

The wide part at the bottom of the paddle is called the blade. The moment it enters the water and you start applying power is called the catch, and the original compares this feel and each blade's use through Enduro and Lima.

This picture helps you understand the two models' characteristics. It isn't a list of every blade currently on sale, or a ranking that says one of them is always better.

02. Enduro: grabbing the water with a wide tip

The original presents Enduro as a shape suited to surfing and flat water. It describes how the wide area at the tip grabs the water and quickly delivers the power you need in surfing.

It's presented as a model used widely by everyone from beginners to experienced paddlers, but the model name alone doesn't decide the right size for your body. You need to look at the blade area, the shaft and the overall length together.

03. Lima: focus on the catch and continuous strokes

In the original, Lima is presented for racing and flat water. The description focuses on a direct catch, the feel of steering and continuous strokes.

The Lima Ltd race label in the picture is also a model distinction from the original. Check the latest products' materials, sizes and options separately in the catalog below.

04. Put your paddling into words

Try describing it in one sentence, like “I paddle slowly for a long time on calm water,” “I want short bursts of power in the waves” or “I'm practicing for races.” Then compare the sizes you'd actually use and how each feels in your hands, and choosing gets easier.

If you can, paddle and compare them yourself in the same conditions. Look not only at the power of one big pull but also at whether you can paddle comfortably stroke after stroke. You can recheck paddle length and which way to hold it in the linked guides.
