Sometimes you spot small bits of trash while paddling. The trash picker is a tool that attaches to your paddle so you can lift out trash within reach. Let's start with the picture and see which way it goes on.
01. See where and which way it attaches
Follow the point in the picture where the small part meets the paddle. Check that your paddle and the trash picker are compatible, and attach it firmly following the product instructions.
The original introduces it as part of the paddle set at the time, but that's not a promise that it comes with every paddle today. When you buy, check the list of what's included with that product to be sure.
02. Your balance comes before the pickup
Only go for trash you can reach from a stable stance. There's no need to lean far out to grab something distant or to chase it with the wind or current.
For anything that looks dangerous, like sharp pieces or unknown containers, don't force it with your hands or the grabber; get help from the site manager.
03. Finish so it doesn't end up back in the water
It's good to have a safe container ready to hold the trash for the time being. Keep it secured so it doesn't slide off the board, and when you're back, dispose of it following your local sorting and recycling guidelines.
Washing the tool and putting it away ready for next time is all part of the outing. Even for a small pickup, bringing it back safely and disposing of it properly is how you finish.
